Hindustan Unilever Pulls Out of KCL Venture

Partnership with K-C sells diapers, san pro pads in India

Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL), India’s largest consumer packaged goods company, has sold its 50% stake in its joint venture to partner Kimberly-Clark Corp. The firm first announced its intention to exit the venture in July 2016.

The joint venture, Kimberly Clark Lever Pvt. Ltd (KCL), sells Huggies diapers and Kotex sanitary napkins in India. It ws formed in 1995.

HUL is exiting the venture to better focus on its core business. Its core business segments are soaps and detergents. HUL has been pulling out of non-core businesses for some time. In 2016, it sold it Modern Backery business to a private equity firm.
